A Song of Black & Gold - by Emre Kuzudisli
Why do we hire interior designers to begin with? Why not let contractors decide your bathroom and kitchen products?
Because we want something different, more characteristic and stylish in our spaces, rather than just random items put together by a contractor. It’s not about how to get the projects done the fastest, or picking products just based on their function.
When designing our homes, we are the one who will be living with those product decisions every day, and we deserve to love our spaces. With that being said, let’s take a look at the trending finishes in 2020.
MATTE BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK
In the last couple years, there is a huge demand for matte black cars, headphones, fixtures, tiles… EVERYTHING! It adds masculinity and a modern, high-end feeling to everything it touches. We see so many companies coming up with new matte black showerheads, hand showers, faucets, sinks, and even, toilets.
As a kitchen and bath specialist it would be safe to say Kohler is leading the pack.
Old But Gold
We can officially say: “Gold is back!” It has been a long journey for gold finishes. I remember when I was in the remodeling industry five years ago, we would remove gold finish fixtures and replace them with chrome or brushed nickel. Silver was the rage. But now, in the Roaring 20s, let’s raise a toast to gold’s glowing come back.
Both unlacquered brass and brushed gold are very popular. But unlacquered brass “patinas”, meaning, darkens and deepens, in just a couple of months. If you don’t appreciate that traditional aging look, maybe the unlacquered brass is not for you. If you want to keep the color of the gold upon purchase shine for eternity, i.e., to avoid the patinas darkening effect, Kohler offers vibrant brushed gold.
The bathroom is where your “ME” time starts and ends. Our job is to simply understand how you would like to feel in your space and educate you with the current and historical design choices. Color trends come and go but how you want to feel in your home endures.
At the end of the day, these pieces in your most intimate settings are an expression of you.
